Here in the city where John F. Kennedy was born and a young Martin Luther King, Jr studied, the unique local spirit of idealism and civic engagement nurtures a critical mass of organizations leading towards an ever greater involvement in service and social change. Quite simply, there is no other American city that has done more to promote a culture of citizen service across the nation and the world. At this ILA Pre-Conference workshop, participants will learn about Boston’s vital role as a global Hub of Idealism.
This conference event will be hosted by City Year, and based at the City Year Global Headquarters for Idealism, located just two blocks from the Conference Hotel. The Pre-Conference will feature a distinguished panel of Boston’s leaders in the public sector and institutions of social change, including:
Michael Brown, Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder - City Year
Rebecca Onie, Founder & Chief Executive Officer - Project HEALTH
Dorothy Stoneman, Founder & President - YouthBuild USA
Earl Martin Phalen, Chief Executive Officer – Reach Out and Read
Moderator: Hubie Jones – Boston Children’s Chorus
At the conclusion of the panel discussion two breakout sessions will commence:
Breakout Session A – Mobilizing a Nation: the growth of the national service movement over the last 20 years
Breakout Session B – Developing Young Leaders: a model for developing the next generation of idealistic leaders
Following lunch which will be provided for all participants, Pre-Conference attendees will journey on a guided tour of Boston’s historic sites of public leadership.
