The ILA is proud to announce that it has received a $20,000 grant from the C.
Charles Jackson Foundation to create an online searchable directory of
leadership education programs.
As leadership education programs are being established at an undocumented pace,
spanning the range from undergraduate minors and majors to Master’s and Doctoral
programs, often new programs are created in isolation, without benefitting from
the experience and knowledge of already established programs. This resource will
be extremely helpful to both emerging and established programs as well as to
potential enrollees of these programs.
“For years directors of leadership education programs and students looking to
continue their studies in the leadership field have contacted the ILA for
information,” says Shelly Wilsey, ILA Director. “Creating an online, searchable
database is the perfect solution.”
The Leadership Education Program Directory will serve multiple groups.
Professors and others who are creating new leadership education programs will be
able to find information about existing models, curriculums and approaches.
Deans and directors of existing programs will use the directory to improve,
benchmark, or expand existing programs. The directory will serve as a starting
point for research for scholars who need information about the depth and breadth
of the field. Finally, the directory will make it easier for students to find
and enroll in leadership education programs that will develop their leadership
capacities.
The vision of the Leadership Education Program Directory is that it will be a
cooperative effort between the ILA and institutions that have leadership studies
programs. The ILA will create and host the directory, which will allow for
easily completed searches and information discovery. In turn, institutions will
be able to submit their leadership program’s information to be posted in the
directory through forms provided on the site.
“The Leadership Education MIG has been discussing this idea, and now we have an
Affinity Group for program directors, deans, and chairs, and one for students,”
Wilsey says. “The timing is right, and the ILA is uniquely positioned to execute
this project.”
We expect this resource to launch before the end of 2010. If you'd like to
make sure you're part of the directory, please contact us at
