Abstract: A Central African proverb notes that “When I run alone, I run fast. When we run together, we run far.” With this in mind, each year, the International Leadership Foundation, with staff of Nairobi International School of Theology, offers a series of Transformational Leadership Seminars, Parts I, II, & III in Kenya, as well as other parts of Africa. Participants include corporate, NGO, church, and top government leaders. Each of the three 3-day weekends addresses four of twelve different topics, designed to challenge leaders in terms of character formation, commitment, call, community building, communication, collaboration, change-orientation, creativity, capacity building, coaching, celebration, and continuation. The seminars not only address content as knowledge and skills, but enable collaboration among participants to plan and implement initiatives to address pressing issues within the local and regional context.

This paper will highlight outcomes of the seminars over the past two years, including the writing of a document on “A Moral Vision for Kenya 2030”, written by 15 seminar participants and presented to the Kenyan government for incorporation into the nation’s official “Vision 2030”. Other participants have formed strategies for mentoring youth around the nation, infiltrating the corporate world, and influencing government policies, including the content of the up-coming Kenyan Constitutional Referendum. Participants are out implementing the plans, holding each other accountable. Every few months, former participants come together to catch up with each other, discuss issues, share the progress of the different task groups, and encourage each other in the implementation of commitments made during the seminars. In addition, those who have completed the series of seminars are invited to join advanced Coaching Seminars, to become facilitators of future series of Transformational Leadership Seminars.
