Ronald E. Riggio, Ph.D. is the Henry R.
Kravis Professor of Leadership and Organizational Psychology
and Director of the Kravis Leadership at Claremont McKenna
College. He is the author of a dozen books and over 100
journal articles and book chapters on leadership, industrial/organizational
psychology, and social psychology. His most recent books
are Multiple Intelligences and Leadership (co-edited
by Susan Murphy and Fran Pirozzolo; LEA), The Future
of Leadership Development (co-edited by Susan Murphy;
LEA), Improving Leadership in Nonprofit Organizations
(co-edited by Sarah Smith Orr, LEA), and the forthcoming
Transformational Leadership (2nd ed., LEA) coauthored
with Bernard M. Bass.
Professor Riggio received his B.S. degree
in Psychology from Santa Clara University, and his M.A.
and Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of California,
Riverside. He has been on the faculties of UC Irvine, California
State University, Fullerton, and UC Riverside, and was a
research psychologist at the University of California, San
Francisco. He has taught courses in organizational psychology
and leadership for over 25 years, and he was the inaugural
recipient of the Western Psychological Association’s “Outstanding
Teaching Award” in 1993.
Professor Riggio was the Convener of the
Global Learning Community for Scholarship of the International
Leadership Association in 2003, and has been a member of
the ILA since 2001.
Professor Riggio is an Associate Editor
of The Leadership Quarterly, and is on the Editorial
Boards of Leadership, Leadership Review, and
the Journal of Nonverbal Behavior. He was the Editor
of the Journal of Nonverbal Behavior from 1997-2001,
and recently co-edited Applications of Nonverbal Communication
(LEA, 2005), with Robert Feldman. In 1994 he began the weekly
Shoptalk column for the Los Angeles Times, a column
that dealt with workplace issues in a question-and-answer
format, from 1994-2001.
Dr. Riggio has been a consultant to many
Fortune 500 companies and smaller organizations, and was
a principal consultant for Advantage Systems Consultants.
He has also been affiliated with the consulting firms Mattson
& Sherrod, Inc. and Applied Research Group. He is currently
the Secretary/Treasurer of the Western Psychological Association
and is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association
and WPA, as well as a member of many professional organizations
in psychology, management, and leadership.
