After twenty-five years as the Chief Executive Officer of Health
Forum, Kathryn E. Johnson retired January 1, 2002. Health Forum offers health
care leaders access to new information and fresh ideas to strengthen their
organizations’ performance, and to improve the health of the communities they
serve.
Ms. Johnson is a graduate of Indiana University and earned her masters degree in
Organizational Behavior at Boston University. She served as the Director of
Management Development at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston from 1969 to
1976. In 1976, she joined the Association of Western Hospitals, which
reorganized and became The Healthcare Forum in 1987. In 1998, Ms. Johnson led
the merger of The Healthcare Forum with the publishing and data and information
subsidiaries of the American Hospital Association to create Health Forum.
Ms. Johnson was awarded a three-year Kellogg National Leadership Fellowship in
1984. She was selected Woman of the Year in 1992 by the Women Health Care
Executives of Northern California and in 1993, she received the Key Award, the
highest honor bestowed by the American Society of Association Executives. She
was named the 1995 recipient of the UniHealth America Foundation’s prestigious
Pinnacle Award. In 1998, she was honored by the Women’s Business Network for her
outstanding leadership in Association Management.
Ms. Johnson is past chair of the American Society of Association Executives. She
is also a former Board member of the National Hospice Organization, the San
Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau, St. Mary's College Health Services
Administration Advisory Committee, the Western Network for Education in Health
Administration, the Health Alliance, The Center for Health Design and
HealthMagic. She also served on the Advisory Boards of the National Civic
League, the Colorado Trust and The Academy for Leadership.
Ms. Johnson continues to serve on the Board of Directors of the Healthcare Forum
Foundation and is active as a consultant to health care and not-for-profit
organizations. She currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of the Film
Institute of Northern California, and as a member of the Board of Directors of
RENEW, the International Women’s Forum West, and the Women’s Health Alliance.
